- The Carl and Erna Weinrich Professor of New Testament and Early Church Studies
Biography
Dr. Bushur joined the CTSFW faculty in the fall of 2006, specializing in patristics. In May 2017 he was named The Carl and Erna Weinrich Associate Professor of New Testament and Early Church Studies.
He received his BA in biblical literature from Taylor University, Upland, Indiana (1989) and earned an MDiv (1993) and STM (Thesis: “The Flesh of Christ and the Economy of Salvation in the Teaching of St. Irenaeus, Bishop of Lyons,” 1998) from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He completed his PhD at the University of Durham, UK, in 2010.
He served as pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Decatur, Indiana (1999–2006), and Trinity Lutheran Church, Goodland, Indiana (1994–1999). He served as director of Deaconess Formation at CTSFW from 2011–2025.
Bushur is a member of the North American Patristics Society.
He and his wife, Lori, have three children.
